Alpine School District Greenwood Elementary School Rebuild
The original Greenwood Elementary School, located in American Fork, Utah, was constructed in 1956 but has undergone various remodels and additions over the years. The school needed to be rebuilt to bring it up to current code standards as well as address the current educational needs of the students.
CORE was hired to work with the Alpine School District to design a phased rebuild that would allow the students to remain on site throughout the construction of the new school. The School District also wanted to keep a recently-added portion of the building that was still in good condition. The design solution saved approximately 20,000 SF of the existing school and created 61,800 SF of new construction. It relocated the entry and provided the school with a new presence on the street front, with a new secure entry.
21st century learning opportunities were also an important part of the new school design. Working with the owner, CORE was able to incorporate collaborative work areas, a state-of-the-art Maker Space, and small and large group break-out spaces. These spaces provide flexible project-based learning environments that address the changing needs of today’s students.
