Corner Canyon High School Classroom Additions
In 2010, Canyons School District constructed the new Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah.
Seven years later, the student body had already exceeded capacity and was using mobile classrooms. The District hired CORE Architecture (CORE) to design an expansion of the classroom wings and cafeteria. To ensure the addition best utilized the site, the design team used LiDAR technology to acquire highly accurate 3D topographic measurements.
The school addition includes east and west two-story wings with six classrooms per floor—24 new classrooms in total. Each wing has a mechanical penthouse to house the additional mechanical systems for the expanded load.
The renovation included an expansion of the cafeteria with outdoor seating as well as terraced riser seating for student gatherings. In addition, ramps help improve ADA access, and clerestory windows borrow daylighting from the cafeteria to provide much-needed natural lighting for the surrounding classrooms.
