Valley Women’s Health

This building is about the reuse of the existing structure and enhancing the experience of the users through the introduction of daylight and improved patient flows. Valley Women’s Health clinic’s design intent encompasses the value of reusing the old structure while merging with the new. CORE Architecture evaluated the original surgery center building, built in 1982, and kept the existing structural columns, beams, roof joists, concrete foundation walls and exterior wall framing as a starting point.

Located amid residential housing and open park space across the street, the building is balanced with the sleek modern interior and the traditional exterior clad in brick and glass. Existing building conditions were dark and lacking daylight, connection to the exterior, efficient patient flow and sound reduction systems. The existing building transforms from a dark cave-like space into a building of light. The pod concept is introduced to greatly enhance the efficiency of the patient flow. With the pod concept the doctors and medical assistants have immediate access to four exam rooms, a vitals area, storage, a patient restroom and a doctor charting area.
