Deseret First Credit Union Operations Center
In the fall of 2015, CORE Architecture provided full programming services for a new three-story, 60,000 SF operations center for Deseret First Credit Union. CORE met with key stakeholders to understand the performance requirements for the various space functional requirements.
The program document provided the qualitative and quantitative requirements of the project for both design and space. In spring of 2016, CORE proceeded with the full architectural services to design the six acre site and 60,000 SF office building. The resulting design reflects a deliberate effort to create a unique office building for the DFCU client while maintaining a sense of permanence. Some design principles used to help establish spatial relationships to site include massing, solid and void focused on inside to outside relationships. Deliberate efforts were made to connect inside to outside and vice versa. Building uses juxtaposing professional versus casual also played a part in creating form and space design. The design exterior utilizes three primary materials for the exterior palette including brick, glass and aluminum composite panel trim. These materials are used in accordance with Suburban Land Reserve’s (SLR) design guidelines and provide a unified look and feel. The materials reflect current material technologies while maintaining a sense of continuity within the surrounding context of the existing office park.
Different textures, shadow patterns, and energy conservation strategies are additional key design characteristics and drivers for this design. Each of the facades has been custom designed to capture mountain and valley views, maximize occupant performance requirements, and respond to solar exposures. Deeper vertical mullions and vertical sun shades on the west façade were integrated into the curtain wall design to assist in mitigating southern and western solar exposures and to provide additional texture and visual interest to this façade. The deeper vertical fins provide additional shading, reduce heat gain, and enhance the overall cooling performance of the building. The interior design features a two story opening at the main entry that highlights a circular stair feature surrounded with vertical wood slats. A high performance board room coupled with multiple conference and training rooms provides several collaborative work spaces for the occupants. Interior open work areas have been organized to allow interior daylight to penetrate deep within the floor plan. A wide range of modern materials, finishes, and colors provide a professional setting for the work environment.
