Valley Women’s Health – Provo

This building is centered around the thoughtful reuse of the existing structure, with a focus on enhancing the experience of patients and staff through increased daylight and improved patient flow. The design for Valley OBGYN clinic carefully balances preserving the original structure with integrating modern functionality. CORE Architecture (formerly Curtis Miner Architecture) thoroughly evaluated the existing surgery center building, originally constructed in 1982, and strategically retained key structural elements. These included the existing structural columns, beams, roof joists, concrete foundation walls, and exterior wall framing, which served as the foundation for the redesign.

Nestled within a residential neighborhood and facing open park space, the building harmonizes with its surroundings. The design juxtaposes a sleek, modern interior with a more traditional exterior, featuring durable brick cladding and expansive glass elements that connect the interior to the outdoors. Prior to the renovation, the building’s interior was dark and disconnected from the outside, lacking natural light, efficient patient flow, and proper sound reduction measures.

The transformation introduces abundant daylight, turning the once cave-like space into an inviting, light-filled environment. To optimize functionality, the design incorporates a pod concept that significantly enhances patient flow and staff efficiency. Each pod provides doctors and medical assistants with immediate access to four exam rooms, a vitals area, storage, a patient restroom, and a dedicated doctor charting space, streamlining operations and improving the patient experience.
