Utah K-12 Education Architecture Delivers Unique Solutions for each Individual School
Kyle Mendoza is a BIM Team Leader at Curtis Miner Architecture.
Kyle began his career in K-12 education architecture back in 2006, when he was hired to complete the construction documents for Wasatch High School. He’s never looked back. 12 years later, Kyle has worked on over 60 education facilities, both new and remodels, throughout Utah & Wyoming: Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, and High Schools.
Don’t confuse “specialist” with “pigeon-holed.” Kyle typically works on three to six education projects at one time, and they are vastly unique, from the clients’ goals to the students’ needs. “K-12 projects offer a little of everything, from athletics to business, performing arts to food service,” explains Kyle. “It’s nice to get so much experience with each project.”
Kyle is particularly enthusiastic about working with other professionals who have dedicated their careers to future generations. For him, the most rewarding aspect of his work is providing the students and professionals an environment in which to excel. While he truly enjoys working on distinct projects and with various clients, one of his favorite projects is Corner Canyon High School, a 330,000 SF new high school in Draper. The school opened in 2013 and houses over 2,200 students, with two-story academic wings, performing arts spaces, athletic facilities, administration areas, and common areas.

Kyle brings a lot to the table when it comes to K-12 architecture. He has strong understanding of construction methods and techniques, and combined with his knowledge of BIM software, these provide a valuable bridge between the project designers and the production staff. Clients and teammates alike really appreciate Kyle’s skills, enthusiasm and humility. “We do not expect any client to fit into our box;” asserts Kyle, “we check our egos at the door and bring only our years of experience to the table to find unique solutions for every project. Our focus is to listen to all of the wants and needs and to deliver a school specifically designed for each individual end user.”
