Cedar Hills Recreation Center
Cedar Hills Recreation Center is situated at the mouth of American Fork Canyon a top alluvial fan on the Cedar Hills Golf Course. The building captures the 360 degree views of the mountains, lake and valley while the overall design emphasizes its surroundings.
As a non-traditional recreation center, Cedar Hills’ focus was on providing a building that unites the community through a wide variety of fitness and recreation classes. Clad in brick, stone and glass the building relates to the surrounding mountains and adjacent residences. A brick feature wall is arranged as a datum and division from golf areas, recreational activities and cafe’ grill. Diminishing the mass of this building, the exterior glazing frames the views over the valley. The mass of the building is peeled away as you progress through the building to the event room where the building fans out to the spectacular views revealed in 180 degrees. Permeable and semi-permeable canopies shelter the exterior patio, while natural daylight and views enhance the use of the spaces.
