Spectrum Academy Charter School Addition
Spectrum Academy Charter School is an educational facility specifically designed for children on the autism spectrum, with its original K-9 campus completed in 2014. Due to increasing demand and growing enrollment, design for Phase 2 began in 2015, and by August 2016, the school expanded to include grades 9–12. This addition allows high school students with autism to continue learning in a supportive, structured, and inclusive environment tailored to their developmental needs.
The campus integrates student-centered design and autism-friendly architecture to create functional, calming spaces. Sensory rooms, speech and physical therapy rooms, and a recreational hall support motor skills and physical development. A dedicated life-skills room prepares students for independent living by teaching practical tasks like grocery shopping, setting the table, and doing laundry.
The outdoor learning environment further enhances the student experience. Landscaped areas and sensory-sensitive circulation paths were designed with autism support in mind. A regulation-size soccer field and basketball court enable participation in high school sports, fostering physical health, social engagement, and skill-building.
Spectrum Academy continues to lead in inclusive school design by offering a full K-12 educational pathway for children with autism. The school empowers students and families by promoting functional independence, academic success, and lifelong social development in a safe and engaging setting.
