Young, Kester, Petro Attorneys at Law Office Building
CORE Architecture worked with Provo-based law firm Young, Kester, Petro to design a new office building in the heart of the city’s historic district. Located at the intersection of 300 West and 100 South, the project site sits just blocks from some of the most notable examples of turn-of-the-century architecture in Utah County. The challenge: design a modern office space that seamlessly fits into this historically rich neighborhood.
In response, CORE conducted an in-depth analysis of the surrounding historic architecture, studying traditional construction methods, materiality, and detailing. The resulting design thoughtfully incorporates historic masonry patterns, classic window proportions, and traditional building massing to reflect the established character of the area. These elements are paired with subtle contemporary touches, allowing the building to stand confidently in its time while still honoring its context.
By blending old and new, the design bridges Provo’s architectural past with the needs of a modern legal practice. The building offers professional office functionality while contributing to the visual and cultural fabric of the historic district.
CORE Architecture’s approach exemplifies how contextual design can elevate a project’s impact—not only meeting the functional requirements of the client but also reinforcing the identity of the surrounding neighborhood. The Young, Kester, Petro office is now a proud addition to downtown Provo, standing as a respectful nod to the city’s architectural heritage and a testament to thoughtful, place-based design.
